NW AL Elder Task Force Council - Week of March 14th, 2016
On Thursday, March 17th, we hosted a meeting of the Northwest Alabama Elder Task Force/Council. A delicious St. Patrick's Day themed lunch was prepared by Debra Newman.
This group meets periodically to discuss gaps in service and other issues faced by elders and their service providers. Probate Judge Tim Mitchell from Marshall County was our guest speaker. He provided information regarding a volunteer guardianship program in Marshall County. Guardians are appointed by the probate court to make healthcare and other decisions for those who are no longer able to make these type decisions. Volunteers are needed in cases where there is no family member or relative to serve in this capacity. Approximately 30 people attended this meeting. We agreed to have a follow up meeting with a smaller group to consider moving forward with a volunteer guardianship program for our area.
